August is the low/rainy season so hotels will be cheap. There are many different beaches and there are hundreds of hotels, so cannot suggest a particular hotel without knowing what sort of budget you are on, whether you just want a cheap place to stay, luxury place or whatever in between.
Airlines flying from Bangkok to Phuket are Thai, bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Air asia and One-2-Go, so you have a big choice.
There is plenty to see and do but just remmeber there is always a chance on the weather. It may stay sunny and dry or maybe just some light rain, or it could be heavy rain storms. That is the chance.
It think we need to know much more about where you want to stay, if you don’t know the beaches just ask. They vary from very quiet to busy and lively ( Patong ), so tell us more.
