Surin National park has the best snorkeling(in Thailand), Similan was pretty nice too. Phi Phi islands has nice beaches, on the big island and Maya Bay on the little island, they are kind of touristy though. Ko Tao and Ko Samet has great beaches and snorkeling too.
But if I was looking for the nicest beaches/islands/peace/few tourists, I would have to say Tarutao National park in Satun Province. 51 islands with only 3 islands that have resorts and only one that has commercial resorts. 90% of the islands are PRISTINE!!! Great snorkeling and camping, I chartered a boat everyday and went island hopping. Most of the time I would pull up to an island on a longtail boat and we would be the only ones on the island!!!
It’s an all-day ordeal to get there, but it’s kinda the point isn’t it? There are two ways, flying or taking a bus to Hat Yai, then shuttle or taxi to Pakbara Pier, then take a speed boat to Tarutao island which is the biggest island in the park. There is a ferry that runs from Langkawi Malaysia to Phuket, you can catch this ferry anywhere along the way. If you take this ferry from Phuket it takes about 8 or 9 hours to get to Tarutao but the senery along the way is really great!!! http://www.thailandday.com/islandbeach/K… http://www.seacanoe.net/tarutaomap.htmhttp://www.dnp.go.th/parkreserve/asp/sty…
Lipeh is the island with all the commercial resorts, Pattaya beach is the main beach, it’s a really nice beach but there are alot of tourists there. There are several really nice beaches and quiet resorts on this island though.http://www.mountainresortkohlipe.com/
I stayed at this resort and it was awesome!!!!!
Good Luck, any questions feel free to contact me I am going again this January!!!
I’ve only been to Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao in the Gulf of Thailand so ignore this if you’re going to the beaches on the Andaman coast. I was there last summer for a few weeks but went the cheap backpacker route so keep that in mind when reading this. I never made it to Ko Samui but I heard its more packed anyway.
Anyway, in Ko Pha Ngan I stayed on Hat Rin for a few days. You’ll want to avoid this big time if you’re looking for peace. However, just north of Rin is Hat Yuan which is filled with beautiful resorts with huts on the cliffs overlooking what I thought was the best beach on the island. The beach is close to the insanity of Hat Rin but for some reason the backpackers stayed on Rin leaving Yuan a tranquil paradise.
On the northwest side of the island was Hat Yao, which is a bad beach for swimming but excellent for snorkling. I stayed at a place called “High Life” resort in an AC bungalow for under 600 B. It was low season though and I’m sure its more (but reasonable) during most seasons. This place was heaven. It’s view is amazing. It’s on the cliffs overlooking the entire beach and has sunsets you’ll remember for the rest of your life. The staff was very friendly and chill, operating on the trust system. You just grab drinks out of a fridge and write down what you took to pay later. Here’s the kicker though, its got an infinity pool that looks like it just drops down over the cliff. Best night swim of my life. You’ll also be within close distance of other great beaches in the north.
Check out travelfish.org before you go! Its a site for just travel in SE Asia and if you post a question there you’ll get far more responses from people who know far more than me.
Enjoy your travels.
The island that I’ve been to in Thailand is definitely Koh Kood if you are looking for a nice not overcrowded place. Last time I was there it was almost deserted i had the best time with my family there. it’s a small and pretty island, best place ever to relax. It’s not really well known though. You’d have to do a little searching before u go. But it seems like just the place u r looking for
you cant go past ko samet little island 20 min boat ride from rayong awesome place sandy beaches, great food all types, classy accommodation or cheaper if ya like and all the stuff you can think of to do without the bars. good beach restaurants and relaxing enjoy paradise!!!
Koh Chang, Koh Samet, Krabi, Khao Lak, Chumpoon, Cha Am, Similan Islands, Phang -Nga and Pranburi
Sorry dear,hit the wrong key?
