I Have A 10 Hour Stopover In Bangkok – Is That Enough Time To Leave The Airport And See A Little Of Bangkok?
I am debating whether or not to venture into Bangkok. My flight gets in at around 9pm and leaves the next morning. Is there anything to do (apart from drinking) at that time? Is it enough time to go for a wonder and get back to the airport?

I think you have enough time to do something.
The rush hour in Bangkok stop around 9pm, so by the time you’re out of the airport there is not much traffic anymore.
The immigration will not take more that 30 minutes to stamp you passport.
In the airport there is also a convenient “left luggage” service if you need.
Take a taxi to Sukhumvit road, will take no more than 1 hour drive.
There you will find many restaurants, department stores and pubs. You will not able to visit temples, Royal Palace or other cultural attractions because on the time you’ll be there everything is closed.
Leave Sukhumvit area not later that 4am otherwise, if you get into the rush hour, you will not reach the airport even after 2 hours.
Any airlines company use to say that for an International flight you have to check-in 2 hours before the departure.
So, not to be tight, I believe that by 11pm you will be able to be in Sukhumvit and you can take a taxi back to the airport not later than 3am / 3:30am. You still have 4 hours fun in Bangkok.
If you don’t need a visa, or already have one, then sure, there’s plenty to do in 10 hours. Assuming your papers are in order you should be out of the airport within one hour. Ideally if your stopover had been during the daytime you could have visited the Grand Palace and other temples, and the Chao Phraya river and lots more touristic attractions; but at night time you can go to a typical restaurant (most are open until late) and sample some of the steamy night life. Just keep your wits about you, don’t carry a lot of money or valuables on your person (lock them in a safe, or stow them in your luggage, in the airport) and allow plenty of time to get back to the airport in time for your flight. It may be an idea to get a tourist-desk-approved taxi service and hire a taxi for the full 8 to 10 hours, ensuring your interim transport and return to the airport in time (plus taxi drivers make some of the best city guides anywhere).
With the times you have available, I would not recommend checking into a hotel for some sleep. By the time you get installed in the hotel room you will have very few hours of rest available before you need to wake up to catch your next flight. You will have wasted a bunch of money on the hotel rooom and be none the better for it: you can always sleep on the plane. Best either to adventure out into the city for the night, or to resign yourself to sleeping in a transit-area seat and maybe exploring the duty-free shops for an hour or so…
If it’s during day time very convenient if you don’t need a visa, check this out before. Pass the Immigration and Take a taxi to the Erawan Hotel which is located right in the middle of Bangkok, here you can have everything around in walking distance ,culture and commerce, there are 5big malls nearby, the famous Erawan holy shrine is located at the hotels corner. The taxi needs around 20-30 minutes and the prize should be around 250-300Thai Baht(7 – 10 $US), from here it’s also easy again to catch a taxi back to the airport but be aware that during rush our the time can be easily 1 hour.
no way 10 hours is not enough time, i spent about 3 or 4 days and still didn’t see everything i wanted to.
the airport, once you get out of there is at least half an hour from kao san road which is where all the night life is. To be fair 2 days would give you a decent outlook.
if you do only have 10 hours go to kao san road, there are bars tourists, then within walking distance or a cheap taxi (ask for on the meter) is things like the grand palace and further down the road is temples including the reclining buddha ( remember to cover your shoulders) you could probably cover these two attractions in 5 hrs
I would keep a close eye on when your next plane leaves, in case they change the time. You could probably leave for an hour or two. Just remember you will have to go through security again, which may take several hours. If you plan your time right, I bet you could get out for a little bit. Don’t know if there would be much of anything to do during the night though.
Yes you can, 10 hours is a long time, you can venture around for about 7 hours, but don’t go too far from the airport, there might be traffic later, so make sure you’re nearby
At night? Bars are pretty much your best bet…all the good stuff is in the morning or afternoon. Also, I’d be worried about traffic and getting back to the airport in the morning. You don’t want to miss your flight!
Ok, everyone’s answered your question already. If having long flight earlier, please get some rest during your flight. Heat here can cause you some jetlag.Hope you enjoy Bangkok
If you hurry, you might have a few hours.
But let me remind you that traffic in Bangkok can be a killer, so I would suggest staying on that side of Bangkok (east side that is)
Yes you can, but keep in mind many businesses close around 10-11pm. Nightlife shuts down around 1am-2am. There are afterhour clubs that shut down around 5am.
Doing a google search on Bangkok after hour clubs will help you out more.
You can travel to Bangkok at Wat Pho, Wat Phrakaeo, the Grand Palace and etc.
yea, walk out of the airport, take a breath, blink and go right back inside.
