I live in Bangkok and have a very good contact that I can share with you. There are many nice places available. It’s a neat city with a nice beach and not real crowded.
That should be no problem. There are a lot of newer places there now. I would not go to an agent to find one though. Go there and take three or four days talking to people and you will find a place to rent. Agents most of the time only find you expensive places because that is how they make money. You can also try using the web site www.ajan.com and see if there is any one there that can help you. That is a site for foreign teachers in Thailand.
You can look in the classifieds in the observer (online) or contact an agent. But it really depends on your budget. If money is really not a problem then it’s just a simple process of looking at a few places and deciding.
If you are on a fairly strict budget it’s still easy but of course a bit more work. This time of year you can probably get a house/condo on Soi sar-la-wat (sp) or soi farang for about 10,000 a month. You can get into the condo chain for about the same or a bit less. If you go into the “suburbs” (past Pai Mi golf) I have a friend who has a nice 3 bedroom place for 7,000 a month.
Going to the area you like and asking around for houses for rent should get you a friendly local agent (not really an agent but likes to make a bit of commission) It’s Asia so it’s always a good idea to get the network working for you. Find a translator to follow you around. Anyone you meet that speaks a bit of English might be game to earn a few hundred baht and hey, maybe they can get a commission too.
Take it easy and relaxed; let everyone make a bit cash and life is a breeze in Hua Hin. But please, no more people are allowed to go to Hua Hin after you. I’ve been going there for 10 years and it’s mine, I found it first!
