It depends, I am 100% Chinese but can’t speak nor read Chinese. I usually go to English websites.
My parents, they speak different dialect, they speak Chinese among their own sis&bro but They speak Thai with each other.
My close friend is also 100% Chinese, she can speak, read and write Chinese. No idea for her internet browsing, she doesn’t use internet.
add :
My another friend is also 100% Chinese, she couldn’t speak her parents’ dialects and couldn’t read and write and she took Mandarin Chinese course for her work and speak Mandarin with her customers, she browses English websites.
I don’t think there are many Mandarin speakers (as mother language) in Thailand.
Thai and Chinese are two different races. They do speak different language although they share similar culture (from the western eyes). If they surf the web, they would go to any websites like you would if they can read English, otherwise there are plenty of Thai websites to go to.
Are there many Chinese in Thailand. Yes, because about 200 years ago during the third King of this Chakri Dynasty, he went to China very frequently to trade. There are loads of Chinese people came to Thailand and settled down here as well. The Thais and Chinese live together without any problem, and in most cases there are inter-marriage between the two races that these days it is hard to distinguish between the two.
Of course there are pure races in Thailand. There are many manority races as well, I think 40 plus. But, the mixing between races are quite common. The pure races of Thai and minority groups can be found outside Bangkok in various areas, but in Bangkok, the capital city, it is a melting pot that nearly everyone is mixed with something.
In Phuket for example there are Chinese temples due to the large number of Chinese immigrants which came over to Phuket during the 1800′s to work in the tin mines. They normally however all speak Thai nowadays and many of them probably can not even much Chinese.
I am half Thai and Chinese, myself. I heard some members of my family speak Chinese from time to time. I don’t know if it is mandarin or what as I don’t speak Chinese. So, I reckon 80% of thai-chinese populations in my province, Phuket, don’t speak Chinese in daily lives, except at home or with members of their own families.
About 14% of Thais are from China. There are many more people who are a mix of Thai & Chinese. They all mainly speak Thai in their daily lives, but follow some Chinese customs and a few speak some Chinese at home. But most Chinese Thais have assimilated into Thai culture. I have not seen any mixed Thai Chinese using Chinese websites.
