I have had long-passion to have a career in media field, since my childhood. When graduating BA in 1997, Thailand confronted terrible economy crisis. There were very little chance to find job involve with media. Yet, I was persevered, until I received job offer from TV Production Company. From then on, I mostly worked in a media and communication arena.
I gained huge knowledge and experiences by working as a TV Producer, Scriptwriter and News Producer, which I satisfied working particularly. I responded for current affairs throughout Thailand and Southeast Asia, therefore my team and I had to travel frequently to many countries in the region, especially when crisis occurred, such as destructive earthquake in Pakistan, Tsunamis and earthquakes in Indonesia, and a mudslide in Philippines. Hard though the work was extremely dangerous, I found the challenging brought me brilliant opportunities to learn and develop my skills in the job I involved. My strong background in media and work experiences, combine with my essential abilities in communication and interpersonal make me feel confident that I am perfectly suited to work in the media field.
However, I would like to pursue further academic studies in Global Media programme at the University of Westminster. I strongly believe that the course will enable me to broaden and deepen my existing knowledge of the highest aspects of media and communication. The course appeals to me immensely. Not only will I study about media and every aspect of its role, but also understand political communications. After completing this course, I am convinced that I will be able to excel as a media professional. More than that, I would like to acquire knowledge so as to assist and develop further mass media and communications in my own country.
In recent years, Thailand has been divided into two groups of political supporters. Their confrontation has caused enormous damage to the country. It is asserted that media plays a major role in this situation. In my perspective, media should assist in bring back united and harmonious to the country. Furthermore, there is a discreet establishment of anti-monarchy group, which is secretly back up by a fake media. It is highly probable that this media will trigger wide rift between Thai societies, especially when the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadey is terminated. I strongly believe that Thai citizen should help to protect our reverence King, as well as maintain monarch-democracy constitution. Definitely, this is one of my ambitions when I returning to the mother land.
I am a self-support student and since I have been living in England, I have studied English language and worked part-time in Thai restaurant, simultaneously. Usually I finish work at midnight, then, I revise my study and do work assignment. I would finish between two and half past two in the morning. Next morning, I get up at half past six and prepare myself to go to the college. It is greatly daunting, but I could manage my time and being success in learning English. Although, studying Master degree require much more time and concentration. Therefore, financial aid is extremely important to me.
Thank you very much for your consideration and I will await the result with great anticipation.
In the book “Charm Offensive”, its author Joshua Kurlantzick explains about “Chinese soft power”; how China could be the second potential country in the world and how China has powerful relationships with developing countries in the world.
In general, China’s goals are maintaining peace and stability on its borders, portraying itself to other countries as a benign and constructive actor, becoming a model of development to other nations, obtaining resources needed to power the Chinese economy, isolating Taiwan, and demonstrating the possibility that it can eventually lead them to a super power.
Therefore, to analyze its goals more specifically, I’d like to mention all the strategies that China established to conquer the hearts of the other countries.
First, the U.S.A.’s bad reputation made China to build up friendship with other countries that need external aids; China was waiting for the RIGHT moment to penetrate the hole that existed in the relationship between the U.S.A and other nations. China being very gentle, helped to resolve the problems that developing countries have, It is the strategy of “win friends away from the U.S.A”. AN example WOULD BE, WHEN the U.S.A was misguiding trade policies, a retreat from multilateral institutions, and human rights abuses in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, and other factors have combined to undermine the allure of America’s ideas, values, and models WHILE China was becoming a powerful nation from economical developments since the fall of the Soviet Union, China Became an international power in the 1990s and concentrating its charm on the countries that hate the U.S.A. like Australia, Iran, Cuba…etc.
Second, the strategy of “Peaceful development” or “stay on the side of the developing countries”., it means targeting especially developing countries that have same situation like itself, and China tried to be portraying itself as the natural guardian of developing countries and showing them the interest toward them. For example, many Chinese people are in Southern Asia learn local language and its culture therefore they can impress the local people and gain their interest toward China. It makes China get a good image to other nations make them think about China like a very peaceful country.
Third, the strategy of “Chinesenize” China is following the U.S.A. as a model of development. As the U.S.A. did “Americanizing its neighbors”, China is expanding their cultural tools to the global world and make the other developing countries feel essentially learn Chinese language and culture. Also, Chinese becomes the languages most used on the internet and a global second language. For example, In Thailand, there are Chinese investors, the government has announced that every public school in the country should learn Mandarin same as in Indonesia.
Forth, the strategy of “becoming a world leader”, China is interfering the world’s problems from Tsunami to the United Nations problems, participating in the global problem more than The U.S.A. For example, China has signed several UN drug conventions, hosted major multinational meeting in China on drug control and started training Asian prosecutors on combating transnational crime like drug trafficking. Working with Asian neighbors and with the United States. Besides, China resolve a serious problem that had between Cambodia and Thailand in 2003, also in 2002 China volunteered to host six-way talks on the North Korean nuclear program involving 6 nation and it made China as a rational actor meditating between two angry, unbalanced nations led by madmen- North Korea and the United States.
Even though, these strategies are getting success in the world, in the process of these strategies making several problems in other countries which are building relationship with China.
First, in poor countries like Laos, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, North Korea, and even the Russian Far East, the appeal of China’s model, of life in China, is more than an abstract idea: people want to get to China itself. We don’t know yet if the soft power is good or bad, for now the soft power is portrayed as a helpful power for developing nations because China is utilizing its charm in other positive ways.
Second, China isn’t resolving its internal problems like improving employees’ working conditions and labor policies. For example, Many Chinese heavy industries such as coal mining have horrible safety and environmental records.
Third, China’s exports threaten developing nations’ industries, China is exporting to almost every countries but China is making the local people to lose their jobs, because of Chinese cheap goods and cheap labors. Even though, Chinese companies have been accused of dumping low-quality, sometimes pirated goods on markets across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, taking a loss at firs in order to win market share. Because of this problem, China is getting itself bad reputation. For example While China is exporting
