Thai Tourist Visa Query – Can I Upgrade 30 Day Visa Exemption To 60 Day Tourist Visa In Thailand?
I’m an Australian planning on spending 5 months in Thailand, starting in mid August 2009.
Half-way through my trip (late October 2009), I’m going to Australia for 3 weeks, but I’m returning to Thailand until January, and I plan on spending as much time as possible in the Ko Phangan / Ko Samui area.
Problem is, due to some issues with running out of pages in my passport, I’ve last-minute had to renew my passport, and I’m not going to get it back in time to get the 60 day tourist visa here in London (timeframe is just too tight).
So I’ll be entering Thailand without a pre-organised visa, so I think that means I get the 30 day visa exemption…
SO if I enter Thailand in this way, can I somehow upgrade it to what I really want, which is the Triple Entry 60 Day Tourist Visa?
Another way I’ve thought could be to do a visa run every 30 days until I get to Australia, and then get the 60 Day Tourist Visa in Australia…
It’s all a bit confusing, I wish I had time to get it from here in London but I don’t – any help would be really appreciated!!!

No, you can’t get a tourist visa in Thailand. Your have to leave and get your visa in another country and then return to Thailand. I don’t know of any country issuing a triple entry tourist visa but you can get a double one in Laos and Penang, Malaysia.
Visa is not econmy ticket where you can upgrade them paying a little money or begging for it. Visas are international rules of reciprocity. So it depends firstly on your nationalitty. Secondly, always it is best to consult Thai consular section in Thai embassy or the Thai honourary consuls at home. You should be asking Thai consuls rather than internet to get specific answer.
A resounding NO
Nothing confusing at all.
After 30 days you will be sick of Samui and KPN anyway. Nothing happening there
visa runs for you mate….are you sure you can’t get a 3 month visa it only takes 2 days
Why don’t you just apply at the Thai embassy in Australia. Visas are processed very quickly Hobart says about 12 hours. Call what could it hurt?
