I came to Thailand from the USA years ago and started a company from ground zero. Since you are half Thai and have a Thai passport, things would be much easier for you.
My opinion is that it is very difficult to do business in Thailand. It is dependent on how much income you need to be reasonably assured you can be guaranteed to make each month or how much you need to live on each month.
The thing about Thailand that makes business so difficult, is that everyone is already in business selling every single thing you can think of.
The other bad news is no geographic territory rights meaning if you open a 7/11 store, another store can open right next to yours and Thai’s are famous for doing this. Currently Lotus Express is opening a new store right next door to every new 7/11.
It is very easy to start a business because you can go to Chinatown and buy what ever you want wholesale. But the problem is a million others are already doing it.
So what business can you start to guarantee an income becomes the real question?
A restaurant that has excellent food and service and is CLEAN, even a Thai restaurant, can make enough to live on if you can put up with all the hassles of restaurant work.
Maybe you can tutor Thai rich kids in English, start a translation business or something where you can use you English skills.
A foot massage in the right location can make good money with low overhead. Good locations means you need customers all the time.
With your English you could get a tour guide card or start your own tour company and be the boss, hiring out Thai tour guides.
The main question is income? If I knew how much you needed to make each month to survive here I might have other ideas
With the current economic situation there is not a lot of opportunity at the moment.
You also haven’t said how much you have to invest in startup costs.
Forget tutoring, foot massage, and ideas like that. You are not going to make the return you want doing that.
Forget exporting because the global economic situation is not good for that now.
A cheap bear bar in the right location selling alcohol and food to Thai people with low margins and long hours is one option.
