I live in Nong Bua lam Phu and have a big letter T on ny wind screen, front and back.
I got that NOT from an embassy but from any land and transport office.
You need the blue book for the car,and if that is not in your own name authourisation from the owner, then you need a “Passport rot ” ( its a purple couled book) from the land transport office ,they will give you the sticker with the letter T, ( I did that at the land transport office in Nong kai, Its on a road behind Big C)
At the border you will need the Original of every thing not a copy,
Its a little complicated at the border as you have to fill in a form listing all the people travelling with you. The wording is strange as the call the passengers “crew”.
Don’t forget in Laos they drive on the “Wrong ” side of the road as in Europe
It is possible to go to Laos and even to Vietnam with you own Thai car.
I also live in Thailand since many years and I always travel with my own car.
I went just one time to Laos passing by Nong Khai ( the friendship bridge border ).
In font of the borders, on the right side, there is a raw of shops with some agency where they organize all the visa documents for Laos.
You can get Lao visa directly at the border, but you need some pictures, fill some form, ecc. This agencies make all for you for a small fee.
I didn’t went with my car that time but I asked the agency there and they told me that it was possible to go by car, but they have to prepare few documents ( including extra insurance ) and you may wait 1-2 days before you they get ready.
Anyway I saw many cars and trucks going up and down the border Lao/Nong Khai.
Nong Khai is a pretty city along the Maekong river which is nice to spend a couple of nights. On the riverside there are many guest houses and some restaurant and pubs run by foreigner, you can find even wiener snitzel there.
You may visit also Indochina market on the riverside too.
Last year a Thai friend went to Vietnam by car. So it is possible too !!
Hope those info are valuable for you
Wish you a nice trip.
No problem but you cannot get a car pass at the border !
need to make an application for a car pass in advance at Bangkok Lao Embassee. the pass is valid for one year.

You can go to Laos from Thailand by using your car with a Thai license plate, but you must make passport and visa.
